WEEKEND
It was Friday night, which meant a get-together of the Shah, Kapoor, and Malhotra families. This tradition started with our grandparents, who were best friends, and continued with our fathers for the same reason.
Now, we carry it on as close friends.
Living on the same floor in the same building, our doors are always open for each other.
Our grandparents gathered at Shah's house, our parents at Malhotra's, and we youngsters at Kapoor's house, in Parth's room.
Rudra, Abhi, and I sat on one couch while Parth, Akansha, and Vaani occupied the other couch. Ruhani, Ruhaan, and Aakash were lounging on the bed, along with Aarushi, who is Akansha and Abhi's little sister.
Everyone was discussing cricket when I noticed Akansha and Vaani whispering and glancing at me, making it seem like they were judging me.
"Care to explain the weird expression you guys have given me for the past hour?" I exclaimed, looking at them, and now everyone's attention shifted towards us.
"Nothing," they both replied at the same time, looking nervous.
"Are you sure?" asked Rudra, raising his one eyebrow, to which they both nodded like obedient kids.
"Come on guys, spill the bin, don't be scared mein hu na," said Arushi with a confident smile, showing her biceps, and everyone laughed at her remark.
"Bhaii aap toh mat haso," She said, looking at Abhi, who immediately stopped laughing and glared at everyone to make his little sister smile.
"Why take tension when your brother is here, right? They all are mad; ignore them," Abhi said, taking her in a bear hug.
Arushi is the sensitive member of our families and the heart of every member, too; no one can see her upset, and she is the youngest among all of us.
"Ignore them, and let's go to Dadu and have fun," said Ruhaan to lift her mood. Obviously, how could he see her sad? He is very protective of her, more than us.
"Yes, let's go. Humse ye log baatein kyu hi karege bade log hai," said Ruh, mocking us and trying to lift her best friend's mood.
Ruh loves Arushi more than anyone and is also very protective of her.
"What did you say?" asked Aakash, slightly raising his voice to scare her, but he failed.
"I'm not scared of you, and I spoke what you heard," Ruh said, holding Aru and Ruhaan's hands while running out of the room, and everyone laughed, looking at their retrieving figures.
A few seconds later
"Do you like her?" asked Akansha after a few minutes of silence.
"Who?" I responded, already aware of what she was referring to.
"Everyone here knows who I am talking about. No need to play innocent, bhai," She said, clearly catching my lie.
Everyone was looking at me with eyes full of curiosity.
After a few minutes,
I replied, "Yes."
Yes I do like her, she is different always carrying her sunshine energy with her that makes everyone's day better, the way she is with Aakash, Vaani or anyone she is always kind and always prioritizes everyone before her and no doubt she is so cute and pretty.
Everyone except Parth and Aakash smiled; they were still looking at me attentively, as if they were reading my mind.
"What if this is just an infatuation or a small crush? She doesn't believe in casual relationships; she believes in long-term commitments. What if you confess your feelings but later realize you don't like her? Regardless of whether it's love or just like, those are strong words that require you to be certain about your feelings." Parth said in one breath, and before I could say anything else,
He continued,
"I don't want you to break her heart. It took us a lot of effort to help her come out of her shell. I know her better than anyone else in this room, and I don't want her to revert to the same Sanvi I met two years ago, silent and reserved just because she is scared of getting attached to people."
"He's right. Don't act on it until you're sure it's more than just a crush," Aakash said, leaning back in the chair next to Parth's couch.
Aakash is Sanvi's second-best friend after Parth.
They share a strong bond. Parth and Aakash both serve as her unofficial bodyguards.
"Don't worry, I won't break her heart, and I will take slow steps, starting with friendship, and then when I am sure about my feelings, then you guys will be our Cupid," I replied while sipping my coffee, understanding their concern for her. I'm glad she has friends like them. I wish I could have met her before, like they did.
"And if you break her heart, Aakash and I will be the first to come after you," said Parth after a few minutes of silence, doing a high five with Aakash, and everyone laughed.
"Yes, then me and Rudy will also come after you to make sure your every bone is broken," exclaimed Abhi, doing a high five with Rudra.
"Last mein hum body dafna ne aaj jayege for breaking heart of our bestie, right Vaani?" said Akansha, nudging her shoulder against Vaani, and Vaani nodded her head vigorously in a positive response.
"Haa sab mujhe hi marr dena, mera kya mere sae kon hi pyaar karta hai." I replied dramatically, rolling my eyes after listening to everyone's response, making everyone laugh.
In the moment that followed, Parth's phone rang, causing everyone to fall silent.
"I think the answer to your previous question of who loves you is on the screen of Arth's phone, bhai," Akansha said with a teasing smile, and everyone gave me a teasing smile after reading the name on the screen.
"It's just a coincidence, guys tu phone utha," I said to him, barely able to hide my smile.
"Look at the famous basketball team captain blushing. What a sight!" Parth said before answering Sanvi's call and putting it on speaker.
Everyone chuckled at his remark.
"HELLO, Parthiiii!" Sanvi exclaimed happily.
"HELLO, jaaneman!" Parth replied, matching her excitement.
I scoffed at her nickname, making everyone laugh.
"Let me connect with Aakash too," she said, putting the phone on hold.
Aakash's phone rang.
"Hello, sanii," Aakash said, moving to the far end of the room so she wouldn't get suspicious.
"Hello, Aakashiiii!" she sang playfully, making everyone chuckle.
"Oh please, not that nickname, Sanii," Aakash whined, and she giggled before merging both calls.
"I love you guys so fucking much," she said after connecting both of them in conference call, and I scoffed while everyone rolled their eyes at my reaction.
"We love you too, Janeman, Sanii," they both replied simultaneously, looking at me.
'Bastards, ' I muttered under my breath.
"The idea of you two worked, and I'm so excited to tell everyone, especially Vaani and Akansha. I can't wait to surprise them! I still can't believe it, guys. Thank you so much; you two are my best buddies and brothers," She exclaimed in a cracked voice.
"Oh, shining star, please don't cry. You know we don't like it, and if we don't, then who will?" Aakash said, trying to console her, leaving everyone confused as we had no idea what they were discussing.
"I'm not crying; I'm happy," she replied, attempting to sound confident, but her voice came out harsh nonetheless.
"By the way, you said you love us, so do you love us more than your ice cream?" Parth chimed in with a mischievous tone, hoping to lift her spirits.
"Yes, more than my ice cream, but don't tell my ice cream this, warna kalesh ho jana hai," she said softly, chuckling between her words.
"Okay, bye, goodnight. We'll meet tomorrow, so sleep now," said Parth softly. "Bye, goodnight, see you tomorrow," she replied, wishing both of them and hung up the call.
"Bye. I remember I had to complete my assignment given by papa. See you guys tomorrow. Good night," Aakash said, quickly moving out before we could ask him anything, and I looked at his retrieving figure.
"You guys will eventually come to know what she was talking about, so have patience. Good night," Parth said, laying down on the bed and turning off the light, leaving no chance for discussion.
We all looked at him confusingly, but nonetheless, we all moved out and went to our respective rooms.
I came in my room and sat on the bed, thinking about what was happening to me.
I didn't like it when he called her Jaaneman.
I feel like I want to be with her and make her smile!
I shrugged my thoughts and slept.
